Greetings friends,
First off, I want to make sure that visitors to the site take note that all of our sponsors to the right of the page now are "hot" links to their individual websites. Team Active Racing certainly appreciates all of their support for the 2008 season, so if you have an opportunity to visit them (and support them with some business), we'd appreciate it (and know they would too).
Anyways, since the Primal Quest has officially completed, the team has been in the news recently. Check out the links below for some articles that may be of interest. Eric, Kathy and Melissa joined the team last Wednesday night on our weekly training ride and did great. You'd hardly believe they trekked over 500 miles just a few weeks ago. At the onset we took a big hill out of Battle Creek and I overheard Melissa say (oh, this looks familiar), full well knowing they likely climbed like this for several MILES (on several occasions) while in the mountains.
Last weekend Jonah rocked it with a great Clydesdale finish in the Waterloo Triathlon. Below is the recap of the race, straight from the "big guy" himself. Great job Jonah!
I raced the waterloo triathlon on Sunday at the Waterloo Rec Area near Jackson. For whatever reason, I have struggled with doing well at this race in the past. I have place, but never taken first. Finally got the tall trophy today though by knocking almost 8 minutes off from my time from last year. Missing from the field though were some of the guys I normally battle with so I beat second place by about 17 minutes. My run was ok for a hilly, twisty 5-mile trail run at 7:49 pace. I cut a couple minutes off my swim and rolled 23.5 for 16 miles on the bike. This weekend I have a 10k in Spring Arbor on Saturday and YMCA happy trails tri in Milford.
Peace,
Jonah
Also, this weekend Danny and Jennifer completed in another team duathlon (run/bike/run) at the Clark Lake Duatholon, with Danny pulling bike duty between Jennifer's running. While team Danny and Jennifer were the only "mixed" duathlon team, they represented very well and Danny provides the following recap of the race. Great job guys!
Just wanted to pass along an update on the Clark Lake Duathlon/Tri that Jennifer and I did today. We of course won but we were also the only du team there :). There were a few tri teams but we had fun anyway. It was a good course overall although the first run and bike were shorter than advertised on the web site. During the ride as I was expecting 3 more to go, I came around a turn and saw the finish.
It definitely changed how I rode the race but I still averaged right under 25mph. I felt good and had one of the higher average speeds I have had this year. Jennifer ran a great race again and was one of the first seven females to finish - she is a great race partner!! And of course they ran out of medals so ours will have to be mailed.
We are going to plan on doing the MI state tri championship in Sept with Dave Sanford again as our swimmer. Should be fun.
-Danny
Finally, Josh continued his amazing (first) season of mountain bike racing this weekend at Ruby Campground with a 2nd place finish - in the mud. Below is Josh's recap of the race.
I just wanted to let everyone know how the race went today. The race was very muddy and not ideal for going fast. I only crashed twice going down some sloppy muddy hills. My overall finish ended up being 2nd. It was a hard fought race to the finish with another guy in my class, until I cramped up on the last river crossing. I think that Matt Gaffner also got 4th in his class. I'll be at Stony Creek next weekend. I also just wanted to give a breakdown on how my results are going for the three series that I'm participating in this year.
MMBA - 2nd / 1st / 10th / 1st / tba / tba / tba / tba
USAC - 1st / 4th / 1st / 1st / 2nd / will miss / tba / tba
TT Series - 1st / 1st / missed / tba / tba
The MMBA and USAC take the best 5 of 8, and the TT series takes the best 4 of 5.
That's the update, talk to ya soon!
-Josh
Great job to all of the Team Active Racers for another awesome couple of weekends of racing.
